I read the reviews before I purchased this white noise generator. I have acute hearing which makes sleeping with oxygen difficult. I was hoping to drown out the noise the concentrator makes in hopes of getting a longer night’s rest. Given the number of positive reviews, I thought the bad reviews were written by miserable people.
I tried every sound in every setting. The sounds were just more noise on top of the oxygen concentrator. In fact, I became more aware of the noises on the street which had never bothered me. I was unable to sleep that night even after I shut the noise generator off.
I promptly returned this. While this works wonderfully for other people, it was a waste of time for me.

I’ve had 3 or 4 sound machines and this Ecotones in more realistic in it’s sounds than other sound machines I’ve had.

I bought one of these and used it for a week or so, after which the unit would no longer power on, so I decided to return it. The sounds were fairly decent but a bit monotonous (for example, the crickets in the meadow setting), and not quite as lifelike as I would have hoped. The brook sound was my favorite. Since the sound is coming from a single location, and is not in stereo, it may not be possible to achieve a much more realistic sound from this unit. I probably would have kept it if not for the problem I had since there is not much else out there like it right now. It sounds like the company has good customer support, though, so I’d say if this is something you could use, you might want to try it out.

I like the white noise setting, the others tend to keep me awake. With one button it will turn on for 1/2 an hour so when I wake up to my wifes snoring i can press 1 button and go back to sleep.

I bought this product to use in an office setting. I see clients for psychotherapy, so it is important to prevent our sessions from accidentally being heard by others outside my office. I enjoy the large variety of different sounds to choose from, although some are not as appropriate for my setting as others. The adaptive feature is a real plus, because it allows the sound to be projected at a low volume (light background noise) when no one is speaking, but when I have a client talking with me the adaptive function raises the volume of sound sufficiently to prevent our conversation from being heard by others. So far this sound machine has done everything I wanted it to do, and some of my clients have said they really enjoy the sounds that I have used (primarily Ocean and Brook). The only drawback I have identified is that the machine responds very abruptly to changes in ambient sound (such as our therapy conversations), and the abrupt ups and downs in volume can be somewhat distracting for some individuals.
